We’re so excited to introduce the first of our Welcome Home series – an opportunity we have worked with some incredible hosts and creators with, to bring you inside their worlds, and pick their professional minds to maximise your own brands.
First up, the stunning new addition to Aloca; Zou House.
Welcome to Zou House
Established in 2012 by Chris and Christal Fysentzou, Zou Build is a nationally-recognised, Queensland-based construction and interior consulting group, featured on 9Life’s Ready Set Reno and Open Homes Australia, and with projects regularly seen in such publications as Home Beautiful, Queensland Homes Magazine, Domain, Interiors Addict, Better Homes and Gardens, Houzz and Adore Magazine.
With over two decades of expertise across the build and consult sectors, Zoubuild’s innate understanding of the Brisbane property landscape and modern homeowner wants lead them to their latest project – a new build, located just 5 km from the city centre on a 407 sqm block in Brisbane’s affluent suburb of Greenslopes.
So, what made them veer away from the traditional?
Conscious of the shrinking suburban block sizes and diverse lifestyle requirements of growing Australian families today, ZouHouse is a bold, sophisticated, forward-thinking five-bedroom home, pioneering the future of approachable luxury homes. With three bathrooms, garden, pool and a versatile lower ground multi-purpose open entertaining space, fitting four vehicles via a creative concealed entrance, it encompasses un-compromised quality finishes, flexibility and long-term family living. Maximising internal space and saturated in natural light, the property boasts floor to ceiling windows and a hero peaked glass front facade, blending organic, earthy textures with Scandinavian simplicity and the calm of a grecian colour palette.
“We have always loved the minimalistic style of the Scandinavian design for the external façade, and are equally drawn to the tones of the Mediterranean, so it’s a combination of both” says Christal.
A grand, oversized entryway features warm timber flooring against crisp white walls, while fluid architecture, curved forms and finishings help to deliver a soft, yet impactful look and feel to the space. Organic shapes continue throughout the home, incorporated through smooth bathroom interiors, light fittings, minimal lounge room furnishings and a beautiful bespoke kitchen island top.
Love! This property is truly something spectacular.
Tips to Top Interiors
With stunning feature ceilings and an outstanding multi-use undercroft that can be closed in with an automated blind system, it’s no surprise ZouHouse has been a favouite with brands this
quarter. Fresh, light, airy and with endless location choices, as build and interior consultants, we picked Christal’s brain as to what goes into the design of a timeless family home that doesn’t feel ‘family’ – and that creates incredible shoot locations!
- Light it up
Access to natural light should never be compromised. Ideally, your first point of call in any renovation or build would be to maximise natural light available. This creates warmth, depth and space. If you’re unable to alter your windows, alternatively, you could look to update your doors. Swap traditional wooden doors for glass or French-style. This can make a hallway feel more open and brighten spaces.
- Oversized is better than undersized
Especially when it comes to mirrors and rugs. Mirrors reflect light and open up a space, and bares the same effect as a window. Remember – you don’t want the width overhanging the item it hangs over, though. Similarly, rugs have a unique ability to spill out and appropriately enhance surrounding spaces, too.
- Less is more
Less clutter makes a room feel larger and calmer. When a room is minimal and edited, it gives the room a feeling of lightness and breathability, so try not to cram too much into one space. And if you’re unsure, leave it.
And when it comes to being a great host, Christal says:
- Always have a stocked bar fridge
- Show your client around, or invite them to do a recci ahead of the shoot date to ensure they maximise their time
- Share your favourite coffee shops and cafes, as well as florists and prop destinations with clients – this saves them loads of time and helps them to plan ahead!
ZouHouse is available now for shoots, with the best time to capture content between 10am and 2pm.
If you’re wanting to get started on your interiors journey, Christal is gifting each of our Aloca community a $150 voucher to redeem on interior consulting services.
